How hiring managers catch lies on a resume - TheJobNetwork
How recruiting directors get lies on a resume - TheJobNetwork As a recruiting director, practically nothing is as significant as guaranteeing that your organization has liberated access to the best accessible ability in your industry at whatever point you have a vacant situation on your group. All things considered, something that is similarly as significant is ensuring your association from applicants who lie on their resumesâ"including everything from little lies that may appear to be unimportant yet could return later to frequent your group, to greater falsehoods that may have a genuine unfriendly and enduring effect on your company. After all, from multiple points of view you're the watchman between your organization and the world, and your senses and skill as a HR expert will help choose who gets the chance to assume a key job in supporting and building your organization. That is an extraordinary duty, and one that ought to be taken with incredible reality in the event that you need to completely bolster the organization you work for. There's simply no advantage to offering obscure up-and-comers keys to your realmâ"in the event that they're willing to begin things off on an establishment of falsehoods, it's a genuine impression of their undermined good and ethnic judgment and dynamic capacities. What's more, in the event that they're willing to be deceptive on their resumes, who knows what different misleading exercises they're able of?You likely needn't bother with us to reveal to you that it is so critical to guarantee that your HR pipeline stays as liberated from off base and falsehood loaded continues as could reasonably be expectedâ"however would you say you are certain that you're going about it in the best manner conceivable? Continue perusing for ways you can help ensure that you're getting resume lies when they appear at your organization's doorstep.Look for inconsistenciesCandidates who are resolved to lying on their resumes will put forth a genuine attempt to conceal their tracks, yet you may (or then again may not) be shocked by what number of these misleading pictures can be gotten unexpectedly by a cautious resume survey. When auditing resumes, search for things that just don't bode well. Dates of work that try not to arrange or that unexplainably cover, odd hops between occupations (going directly from an assistant to a VP may be a warning), or occupations that try not to appear to line up with a competitor's experience or instruction (an applicant with a BA in brain research filling in as the leader of a medical clinic's mental group may be faulty) should all fill in as triggers that something fishy may be going on.Conduct cautious starting telephone screensWe realize you're occupied and taking the time to painstakingly screen each potential applicant is tedious yet trust usâ"it's certainly justified regardless of your time. Actually, the best recruiting supervisors have very much sharpened untruth location abilities and addressing an applicant can help uncover a few realities that they were attempting to leave hidden.

Social Media for Military and Veterans - Workology
Social Media for Military and Veterans - Workology Connect with Family and Friends: Sandboxx, VetFriends, and Facebook I remember writing letters to my son while he was serving overseas in 2010 2011. I never knew how long it would take for delivery and just assumed it was several weeks at least. I also remember being in the dark about what was happening. Now there are better ways for service members to stay connected to their families and each other. Since May is Military Appreciation Month and includes the sacred holiday of Memorial Day, its a perfect time to share communication and social media options for our heroes. In addition to vital communications and updates, some of the sites can now better help our heroes find particular people or job opportunities. Most of them allow the member to create a personal profile similar to LinkedIn or Facebook. Career: LinkedIn and RallyPoint Rally Point is for active duty, veterans, and civilian supporters. As of today, they boast 1.2 M members including 535K service members, 544K veterans, and 127 K supporters. The profile in Rally Point is pretty comprehensive and somewhat similar to LinkedIn, but without some of the visual options. Rally Point has sections for career, education, and groups. From a career perspective, the benefit of Rally Point is that it is strictly military focused including lots of veteran-friendly employers and job opportunities. With over 500 million professionals as members, LinkedIn is still the best place to find global career and professional opportunities for most users. The sheer size of LinkedIn is attractive; users can find hiring managers, recruiters, and job opportunities. There are many military-focused LinkedIn Groups, including a veterans mentoring group. LinkedIn also provides a one-year free subscription of Premium Career for veterans. I recommend that veterans leverage both LinkedIn and RallyPoint while actively pursuing career opportunities. LinkedIn should be your primary resource, but veteran-oriented opportunities may be easier to identify in RallyPoint. Connect with Family and Friends: Sandboxx, VetFriends, and Facebook Sandboxx is built for active duty, veterans, and military families. This site also has a personal profile and the ability to connect with others. Most interestingly, letters can be sent via Sandboxx. Similar to LinkedIn, Sandboxx asks the user if they wish to upload contacts. Active Duty, Reserve/Guard, and Veterans can Invite Kin to connect. They can also easily connect with other service members. The home feed is fairly active with military-oriented motivational quotes and images and real user engagement. The VetFriends site includes the ability to access an extensive research database. Users can access US Public record and US Veteran People finder with the VetFriends premium subscription. In the free site, veterans can find military photos, jokes, events, and lingo as well as many other resource pages. Set up a profile and include the military units where you served. From a pure searching perspective, this site is also worth trying. VetFriends doesnât appear to have a mobile app yet, so go to your desktop for access to the site. Never underestimate Facebook. The Facebook private groups are ideal for families of deployed families to stay up to date with the troops activity. The sheer size of Facebook makes it perfect for military families to stay connected with each other and their loved ones. However, military families have to be careful what they post on Facebook, such as addresses, locations, and movements of troops due to confidentiality. Even if the group is considered closed or private, I still suggest users exercise caution about posts and comments. Its wonderful to see the new sites and capabilities focused on our heroes and their families. I hope that these sites will help our veterans to readjust, connect, and find optimal career opportunities as they transition away from the military as well as help the current active duty forces to feel more connected as they serve. What other sites do you use to stay connected with your military friends and family?

Please note this episode is completely extemporaneous and conducted without a script, notes, or prompter. The transcript is formatted for visibility and accessibility to other references only, so it reads like I speak.] Hi everyone, this is Andy LaCivita and welcome to episode four of Tips for Work and Life ®. Today, were going to talk about the four must dos to fulfill your purpose. Ever since I did my first podcast titled, The First Thing To Do When You Want to Change Careers, Ive been getting messages via social media and directly from people commenting they feel have clarity on what they want to do, but In that (first) episode, we talked about finding your purpose (and writing your headline). If you havent had a chance to listen to that podcast, it might be helpful to go to it or revisit it. We talked about gaining clarity regarding what you want out of life and what you want to offer this world. A lot of the comments I got from people mentioned they have clarity regarding what they want to do, but cant seem to fulfill it. They cant seem to get it to work! I read, âI feel like I know how, but Im not quite sure what Im not doing. I thought as I was remarking back to these listeners and readers there are four (must doâs) that absolutely have to be done in order to truly fulfill your purpose. Before we dive in, Iâm going to assume you know what it is you want to offer this world. (If not, see the first podcast for help.) Lets just say you have that clarity. Most people, once they realize that clarity, immediately want to go into the âhow.â How am I going to make this happen? SACRIFICE [First things first. You need to be willing to give upâ"a lot.] While thatâs a step I would recommend, it isnât the place I would start. The place Iâd start is with sacrifice. Trust me when I tell you, determining how youll fulfill your purpose will be much easier than dealing with what youre going to need to give up. Do you want it badly enough youâre willing to sacrifice for it? Before you concern yourself with how youre going to get it done, take stock. If youâre unwilling to sacrifice in order to overcome the obstacles and all youâll need to learn and all youâll need to do to become proficient, youre never going to make it happen. This is the first and probably most common issue that derails anybody from achieving anything. Whether thatâs living their purpose or achieving their goals. So, the first thing you need to do is make sure youre not only clear regarding what youll sacrifice, but also actually follow through and sacrifice it. This could be a hobby, time with your friends, or dinners out. This could be whatever you do to enjoy life. Maybe, even what you think are ânecessities.â In order to do something big with yourself, youre going to have to give up big things. You are bigger than you can imagine. What you have to offer this world is bigger than you can imagine. It really is. Hereâs something youâll need to accept. Of all the people in your life you touch or make a profound impact onâ¦most of them will never even let you know you made a great impact on their life. Trust me when I tell you, the things youre doing, whatever they are, however innocuous you think they are, they are impacting people. You might find out months later or years later. You may never find out. But, you have to trust that what youre doing is worth it and you need to be willing to sacrifice in order to give it to the world. I think about what I sacrifice in my life to make sure you can get my message. Itâs worth it to me. LEARN [You never stop being a student.] The second must do is understanding and accepting the fact you are going to need to learn things you dont know. Not only are you going to have to learn things you dont know, youâll also have to keep learning new ways to do things you already know how to do! Are you willing to learn and adjust? Heres what happens. You decide [your purpose] and what you want to offer the world. You decide what youre going to accomplish. You decide your goals. Then you start learning and become proficient. Then youre cruising along and start to see youre really contributing value to the world. Then as soon as you get proficientâ¦bang! The world changes. Itâs bad enough there are obstacles simply to learn what you need to learn. Itâs bad enough people arent going to cooperate and lifes not going to cooperate. On top of that, the world is going to change. Thats a given. Its going to evolve. Its going to present new ways for you to deliver whatever it is youre delivering and youre going to need to make changes. Thats a given. The only thing that isnt a given is what youre going to do about it. Heres a great acid test. Itâs something I ask myself before I undertake something because I want to give it my best. Theres a huge difference between a passing interest and a deep desire to do something, accomplish something, or be part of something. What I do before undertake itâ"to know whether or not I will take it to fulfillmentâ"is ask myself, Am I willing to struggle when it gets hard? Will I be okay with that? Will I deal with the struggles, whether theyre daily, monthly, or yearly? If youâre willing to struggle, I promise you there is a deep desire because thats the huge difference. People have lots of interests and its great when all is going well. But, as soon as something goes wrong, they stop. They throw in the towel. They give up. They let go. Sure, they were interested (at one point), but they didnt have a deep desire. Heres a great example. I love writing. I wish I could just write everything, shoot it out into the world. Have you read it and get those great takeaways. No. The world says, Hang on. People want to see things differently. They [actually] want to see it on video. They want it coming through their ear buds. They dont have time to read. They want to listen while theyre driving. All of these new inventions and technologies weve created are wonderful. They allow us to meet and access more people. But, this also means I have to create products and messages that use different mediums. That requires extra work. Thatâs more painful, BUT I feel like what I have to share with you is important. Youâre important to me. Getting this message to you is important to me! Whether thereâs only one of you listening or a hundred or a thousand or a hundred thousand. I think this message is important. I hope you learn something from it. If Im able to touch one person, Im going to go to great lengths to transfer my message. Hopefully that persons life will be changed. You are going to need to think about this. It matters. BELIEVE [You must believe in yourself no matter what.] The third must do comes even when you have clarity, ever though you struggle, and even though youâre becoming proficient. It asks, âWill you continually believe in yourself no matter what? Will succeed no matter what it takes, no matter what the world throws at you, no matter the challenges you encounter. Do you believe? Do you trust your own ability to figure it out? Will you overcome those obstacles?â Theres a great quote, Im sure many of you have heard. No truer words have ever been spoken than the ones by Henry Ford who said, Whether you think you can or you cant, youre right. It doesnt matter how proficient you are or how much skill you have. If you dont believe in your ability to make it happen, you wont. Thats number three. Will you believe in yourself no matter what? FOCUS [With a vision, your why, and the how, youâll be focused.] The fourth must do really troubles people, especially in our world today and the speed at which everything changes. You have so much coming at you through the television, through the radio, through the Internet, through the social sites. There are constant distractions. Will you remain focused because your love for fulfilling that purpose is greater than anything else that enters your life? You have clarity and are willing to learn. You will overcome the challenges. But, as those daily surprises and opportunities surface, will you be able to remain focused? Will you remember why you got into this in the first place? Can you remove the noise? You can try to swat away the obstacles, but there are actually three [reasons] you stay focused. You have strategy and you have a vision. [If you understand your why and you understand your purpose, I assume you have that.] The âwhyâ you want to make that happen is the second key ingredient. Many times people forget their why. It makes them lose focus. The how. Do you have a map? If you have a map, the map will help you weather the storm. Focus is really about staying true to all youve already developed. What is your purpose? Why is that important to you? How will you achieve it? Youve already developed this. By the time you encounter these focal distractions, you have all the tools necessary to overcome them. Even so, common sense does not mean common practice. In this case, this wasnt all common sense, but there was sense to what you did and what you put together and why you put it together and the reasons you got engaged in whatever it was in the first place. Once you have clarity around your why and what you want to offer the world and how you want to give it to them, it comes down to being able to sacrifice those things that might enjoyments or ânecessitiesâ or whatever. But, you need to be willing to give those up. Are you willing to learn and continually learn whatever it is you dont know? Then, once you do know it, are you willing to adjust to better ways of doing it? Will you believe in yourself no matter what? Will you stay focused? If you can do this, I think youll be very, very effective at fulfilling your purpose! As always, Ive got some show notes, extra reading, and links to articles. I hope this really helps. For me, its about doing those four things everyday. Until next week, have a great one.
